Damian Lewis Campaigns For Dump the Scales Movement

– End Eating Disorders –

Damian can be seen in this video campaigning for Dump the Scales, a movement of caregivers, clinicians, and people with lived experience from all over the world who are passionate about ending the injustices of those affected by eating disorders.

Today, the movement launched the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Eating Disorders’ new report, The Right to Health: People with Eating Disorders are Being Failed. This urgent report highlights the growing eating disorder crisis in the UK, with NHS data showing admissions exceeded 30,000 in 2023/24—the highest recorded. Immediate action is needed.

Based on evidence from people with lived experience, caregivers, clinicians, and academics, the report identifies key issues: barriers to timely treatment, insufficient healthcare training, fragmented care pathways, and lack of standardized research data. A major concern is the postcode lottery in care provision.

The APPG calls for:

  1. National Strategy for Eating Disorders: A strategy covering adult and youth services, with adequate funding for reform and evidence-based treatment.

2. Increased Funding for Services: Additional funding to meet the growing demand in both adult and children’s services.

3. Confidential Inquiry into Eating Disorder Deaths: To understand the scale of the issue and prevent further loss of life.

4. Increased Research Funding: To improve treatment outcomes and ultimately find a cure.

5.Non-Executive Director Oversight: Ensuring transparency, accountability, and better outcomes across NHS Trusts and Health Boards.

This crisis demands immediate reform. They urge policymakers to implement these recommendations and prioritize the right to health for everyone with an eating disorder.
