– WWII D-Day Drama –
It’s back to Normandy again for Damian, this time in the World War II film titled Pressure. Based on a true story, the plot centers around a German meteorologist who had assumed the invasion wouldn’t take place when it did due to the forecast of unfavorable conditions, but the Allies avoided the unexpected gales to successfully carry out the Normandy landings and invasion on June 6, 1944.
Damian has been cast in the role of legendary British Field Marshall Bernard Law “Monty” Montgomery. Other cast members include Brendan Fraser as Supreme Allied Commander Dwight D. Eisenhower, Andrew Scott as Chief Meteorologist Officer James Stagg, Chris Messina as Colonel Irving P. Krick and Kerry Condon will portray Captain Kay Summersby, the chauffeur and personal secretary to Eisenhower. The film was written by David Haig and Anthony Maras, and will be directed by Maras.
According to Deadline, filming has started and “will concentrate on the pressure cooker of the decision-making but also capture the scale of the landings.”
The synopsis reads: “In the seventy two hours leading up to D-Day, all the pieces are in place except for one key element – the British weather. Britain’s chief meteorological officer James Stagg (Scott) is called upon to deliver the most consequential forecast in history, locking him into a tense standoff with the entire Allied leadership. The wrong conditions could devastate the largest ever seaborne invasion, while any delay risks German intelligence catching on.”
“With only his trusted aide Captain Kay Summersby (Condon) to confide in, and haunted by a catastrophic D-Day rehearsal, the final decision rests with Supreme Allied Commander Dwight D. Eisenhower (Fraser). With only hours to go, the fate of the war and the lives of millions hang in the balance.”
