More on Giovanni’s Room

  • The BBC Radio 3 drama Giovanni’s Room will broadcast Sunday, Sept 5th at 6:30pm. The program is 90 minutes long and will be available to listen to live on the BBC Radio 3 page.

    From the BBC website:

James Baldwin’s classic novel in its world premiere radio production, set in Paris, 1954. When handsome blond American David meets the stunning Giovanni in a “bohemian” Parisian bar, he is swept into a passionate love affair. But David’s fiancé, Hella, returns to Paris and, unable to admit the truth, David pretends the liaison never happened, with calamitous results for all three, especially for Giovanni, whose life descends into murderous tragedy.

  • The Atlantic website has an interesting interview with military advisor Dale Dye who has nice things to say of Damian:

Which actors really understand what it means to be a soldier?

Tom Hanks, Morgan Freeman, Damian Lewis, Tommy Lee Jones, Samuel L. Jackson, Tom Cruise, Ron Livingston, and Tom Berenger are at the top of my list. There’s just something in their backgrounds or mentalities that makes it easier for them to understand the soldiers’ point of view. All these actors do lots of homework. They listen more than they talk.

During publicity for Band of Brothers in 2001, Dye also praised Damian saying “He was terrific in training, busted his butt … there’s something in that little ginger shit’s eyes.” 🙂
